EP Review: "State Of Emergency Vol 1" by Bellah

"State of Emergency Vol 1" by Bellah EP cover
Here is another album review brought to you via an interesting album cover.

By now avid readers of this blog know the script. I was scrolling through my favourite album news site to see what albums has been released and stumbled upon an artist I knew nothing about that had a captivating album cover. So, as you know by now I had to give the album a listen which leads to a review on the blog. The new artist whose album cover art piqued my interest is Bellah.

When it comes to the next wave of UK R&B, Bellah is leading the charge. The UK’s answer to Summer Walker, Kehlani or SZA, the North London singer-songwriter makes soulful and honest music, treating her words like the inner pages of a diary.

With lyrics that feel like you’re chatting to a best friend, plus the ability to write a killer hook, Bellah has that rare combination of industry nous and reliability. Her British-Nigerian heritage brings an Afro influence to that unfiltered R&B, a sound that has been hailed by complex and BBC 1Xtra, who made her debut signle their Track Of The Week. Here is what Bellah had to say about her EP:

"STATE OF EMERGENCY VOL.1 OUT MARCH 27TH

Am I dramatic? Yes. But please understand I mean every word ❤️

It is one of the greatest privileges of my entire existence to even be announcing this body of work. I even had to write this last night because I have a performance today and I have to do all my crying before my face is beat.

I serve a living God. There’s a version of events where this post never happened, the songs weren’t created, the opportunities weren’t provided. I just wasn’t here.

But I’m alive and well and in the beautiful timeline that I get to be everything I’m meant to be and share with you the fruits of my becoming.

I named this project 3 years ago and it’s not lost on me that right now everyday feels like a state of emergency. I hope this project offers even just a moment of relief. Songs you can sing at the top of your lungs and music you can dance to like no one’s watching (or like everyone is watching - do you babes)

There are people that I need to thank so DEEPLY and I can’t wait so I won’t make you either. No more long paragraphs until it’s out. 😭

STATE OF EMERGENCY VOL. 1 will be with you in 2 weeks ❤️

(So yes. There is a vol. 2)"
