EP Review: "CANDY" by Justine Skye

It has been quite a journey that I have taken with Ms. Justine Skye. Every avid music lover has one or a few artist that we all believe are worthy of having mega success like #1 albums and songs on the Billboard charts, sold out worldwide tours and having platinum and/or diamond selling singles and albums. Justine Skye was that artist for me. Here is the thing, Justine Skye debuted in 2013 which is right around the time my love for music truly developed. Of course, I listened to icons like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and more but these musical acts were more established so I was looking for a newer artist to latch on to so that we could both basically start our musical journeys together. Then came Justine Skye in 2015 with her incredible EP titled "Emotionally Unavailable". The talent was in attendance, the music was excellent and here being a stunning darkskin black woman of Jamaican (Caribbean) heritage was an added bonus. Yet just as life is unpredictable such is a music career. Her career never really reached the heights that I imagined and wanted as her controversies surrounding her dating life, being friends with the Kardashians, issues with several labels constricting her artistic freedom and the grind of being an independent artist took centre stage rather than the most important thing which is the music. Then all did not seem lost as in late 2022 her instantly classic song " Collide" featuring Tyga became a viral sensation eight years later as it was originally released in 2014. This lead to my hopes being raised that she would finally get the recognition she deserved but it was a fleeting moment. Still I followed her cause major success or not I am in it for the love of music. This brings us to early 2025 when Skye began collaborating with Kaytranada in early 2025, with their partnership yielding her Warner Records debut single, "Oh Lala," which was released on May 30, 2025 which leads us to her fifth EP titled "CANDY".

Album Review: "June" By De'Wayne
