Rewind: Carrie Underwood (Singles Discography)

These days it seems like the once respected and beloved titan of Country music has fallen out of favour with the general public. Who am I talking about? Well it is not Dolly Parton, Reba, Shania Twain or Faith Hill just to name a few but it is Carrie Underwood

The Oklahoman singer come into the pop culture zeitgeist by competing in Season 4 of the once popular singing competition show American Idol during its heyday. Talk about a full circle moment as she has been now a judge on the same show since 2024. During her season, one of the most polarizing judges Simon Cowell set aside his usual harsh critiques and said this about Underwood after her brilliant performance of "Alone" by Heart during the Top 11 show ,  "You're not just the girl to beat, you're the person to beat. I will make a prediction: Not only will you win this show, you will sell more records than any other previous Idol winner." That predication stunned the other judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul as well as the live studio and the at home audience. However, Simon told no lies (that time)! Her first single, "Inside Your Heaven" in 2005, made her the first-ever country artist to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 and the only solo country artist to top the Hot 100 in the 2000s. Led by crossover singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and RIAA diamond-certified "Before He Cheats", her first album, Some Hearts (2005), became the best-selling debut album of all time by a solo female country artist, was ranked by Billboard as the top country album of the 2000s, and won her three Grammy Awards—including Best New Artist.

One of the best-selling music artists, Underwood is the highest-certified female country artist by total US units sold (over 95 million albums and singles) and by digital single sales (over 72 million). She further is the female artist with the most number-one singles on the US Country Airplay chart, while "Before He Cheats" is the highest-certified solo female country song. Billboard ranked her as the top female country artist of the 2000s and 2010s, while Pollstar ranked her among the 15 highest-grossing female touring artists of the last four decades. Her accolades include eight Grammy Awards, the most Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards among female country artists, seven Guinness World Records, as well as inductions into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. Additionally, Rolling Stone hailed her as "the female vocalist of her generation in any genre", Time listed her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014 and Forbes declared her the most successful American Idol winner. Back to my opening statement. Underwood has been catching heat online for decisions she made that revealed her political leanings (happens to all popular artist no matter their political persuasions) and it seems like the American Idol audience that once cheered for her and even voted for her to win has now soured towards her especially to her critiques of the constants during Hollywood week of the most recent season as evidenced by the following tweet

Anyway, no matter what your opinion of Carrie Underwood was, is or will be, one thing cannot be denied is her place among the icons of Country music.
