Album Review: "Icon" by Brent Faiyaz

"Icon" by Brent Faiyaz album cover
Brent Faiyaz is an artist I knew about yet I have never been interested in his music. However, I have a music blog where I discuss music so the perfect opportunity presented itself to finally to listen to music. Here is some information about Brent.

Christopher Brent Wood (born September 19, 1995), better known by his stage name Brent Faiyaz, is an American R&B singer-songwriter and producer. He is based in Baltimore, Maryland. His first single, “Natural Release,” was dropped on his SoundCloud. On September 19, 2016, Faiyaz dropped his EP A.M. Paradox; catching the attention of GoldLink. Just 2 months later on December 16, 2016, Goldlink collaborated with Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy (Now Young Jefe) to create the behemoth single “Crew.” On October 13th, 2017, Brent released his debut album Sonder Son. The album serves as a follow-up to Faiyaz’s 2016 EP, A.M. Paradox. In 2018 Brent Faiyaz released an EP (https://genius.com/albums/Brent-faiyaz/Lost). The Ep features a sole feature from Los Hendrix. In 2020 Brent makes his big return to music after a few singles dropping his second studio album (https://genius.com/albums/Brent-faiyaz/Fuck-the-world) The ten-song album with common themes of the Album showing Brent’s Toxic side. After the release of Fuck The World, Brent Faiyaz immediately starts releasing music for his next album with the first single (https://genius.com/Brent-faiyaz-dead-man-walking-lyrics) and doesn’t stop dropping singles until the albums release with Gravity ft Tyler The Creator, Wasting Time ft Drake and The Neptunes and Price of Fame. In 2021, Brent drops a three-song Ep with only one song appearing on this album. Although the Ep is only available with a Dropbox link it is still unclear if it will ever be released. On July 8, 2022, Brent drops his sophomore album (https://genius.com/albums/Brent-faiyaz/Wasteland) His longest project to date. Brent embraces an RnB tone that is influenced by Pop and Rap and it debuted and peaked at no2 on the Billboard charts- his highest commercial success to date. Excerpt taken from Brent Faiyaz
