Year End Recap: Artist of the Year (2025)

Before, I unveil my artist of 2025, let us briefly recap the year in music. 2025 was an interesting year in music. It was the year that I listened to the most albums in my life. Also, this year I expanded my variety of genres as I listened to the most genres outside of Pop and R&B plus this is the most new artist I have discovered in any year. However, these artist were not in the mainstream given that the mainstream was lackluster. The most popular artist releases were uninspiring at best and horrendous at worst. This made me turn to the alt scene and timeless, classics as seen by the numerous times these types of records appeared on the Hot 10 list. However, even in such a lackluster year for music there are three (3) artist who stood out for me and kept my musical heart flutter this year.

Here are my artists of the year!

FKA Twigs

Before 2025, I had not listen to an FKA Twigs album. I have heard and love several of her songs such as Two Weeks, Tear In The Club, Cellophane, Glass & Patron etc. So this year I took the plunge and finally listened to her third studio album titled "Eusexua" by the alternative goddess herself. That was one of the best musical decisions I made this year because I totally became enamored by her artistry. Her vocals, choreography, live performances, visuals and songs are top notch and I am vexed that I was so late to the party.

Here are a few of my favourite FKA Twigs moments of 2025!

Partyof2, Jadagrace, SWIM

This Hip-Hop duo was featured on my Best Bew Artist post and here they are again on this list. This former trio turned duo was truly one of my favourite musical discoveries of  the year with their unique OutKast like take on Hip-Hop music.

Here are a few of my favourite Partyof2 moments of 2025.

*De'Wayne

I discovered De'Wayne in 2024 when one of my Twitter friends posted about his song titled "synthesizer". Being my musically curious I gave the song a listen and feel instantly in love. He was the answer to my musical prayers. Naturally, I listened to more of his music but I was waiting for a full length project that I could sink my teeth into and that came this year with the release of his album titled "june". Unsurprisingly, the album was pure excellence and was on constant repeat throughout the year.

Here are a few of my favourite De'Wayne moments of 2025.
