Album Review: "Who Did The Body" by Monaleo

Monaleo has been on my radar for quite a while now. However, she was not in what I would consider my rolodex of go to female rappers. Who is in my rolodex of go to female rappers? Obviously, there is Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Doja Cat, Doechii and Megan Thee Stallion. While I do listen to others female rappers like Latto, GloRilla etc. from time to time the female rappers I mentioned before are the main female rappers I listen to regularly. Anyways back to the subject of this review, I find out about Monaleo through Twitter and would watch her viral freestyles. When engaging with her work I have always enjoyed her artistry but I was never eager to go beyond the clips I show on my social media feed. That changed in 2025! As usual, Monaleo went viral but this time it was for her controversial song "Sexy Soulaan". The song sparked controversy among two factions of the black community calling into the question the meaning of the term "soulaan" and the Pan-African movement. While the conversation the song sparked was valid and necessary I truly did not care and was more focused on loving the song. "Sexy Soulaan" is the moment I have been looking for, it was the accelerant I needed to finally get fully into Monaleo's catalog. That is how I learned she was releasing a new album and that song is the reason I am reviewing her sophomore studio album titled "Who Did the Body". Let us see what she has in store for us!
