Album Review: "Vie" by Doja Cat

"Vie" by Doja Cat album cover
That was rather quick! Or maybe two years between albums in this fast paced music industry where it seems that artists are releasing albums every six months can be considered a long wait. Whatever the case might be, Doja Cat is back with a brand new album. That's right, two years after introducing the world to her cunning, lyrical, twisted, Hip-Hop focused alter-ego Scarlet on her fourth studio album that goes by the same name, Doja has released her fifth studio album titled "Vie". However, this time around she has ditched her alter-ego and embraced everything that is the 80s which is a bold move giving all the success she had with Scarlet. While there were controversies during that era, she still got a # 1 song with "Paint the Town Red" and top 10 hit "Agora Hills" on the Billboard charts plus the album went platinum so one would think that she would stick with Scarlet and continue to prove the naysayers who doubt her rapping abilities wrong. Yet, Doja Cat being the ever evolving artist that she is had decided not to rest on her laurels and give her fans something new with her fifth offering. Should she have explored Scarlet more? Is the 80s a good soundscape for her? Can she ever surpass the glory of Planet Her? Let us find out below!
