To be totally transparent my introduction to the other Mariah cause Carey will always be the one and only Mariah was not a pleasant one. The Scientist became a part of my musical lexicon due to several viral videos of her less than impressive vocals trending on Twitter. You know what they say about first impressions! They are beyond difficult to reverse! Also, those viral videos did not help my perception of her which was she was knowingly or unknowingly a part of a vile trend I observed in music where talented darkskin black women were not giving any promotion but several less than talented lighter skinned black/biracial women were given the keys to the kingdom. All this combined ensured that The Scientist would not ever be in my playlist. Did I say that first impressions were beyond difficult to reverse? Yes! However that does not mean that it its impossible. As I have stated many times before, this year my main music goal was to listen newer artist whether they made their debut this year or they are established with many albums, EPs and mixtapes but it would be the first time I am listening to their music. So, with that goal in mind I decided to give Mariah The Scientist fourth studio album titled "Hearts Sold Separately" a listen especially after the lead single "Burning Blue" and the album name ( I am a sucker for a good album cover and name) piqued my interest. Let us see what she has in store for us!
