Rewind: The Pussycat Dolls (Singles Discography)

Some weeks ago a longstanding music record was shattered into several different pieces. What record was that you may ask? For twenty four (24) years, Destiny's Child had the distinction of being the last girl group to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their hit song "Bootylicious". That record was broken by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr-x voiced by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami with their song "Golden" from the smash Netflix movie "KPop Demon Hunters". Learning this fact surprised me because there have been countless popular girl groups since Destiny's Child such as Fifth Harmony, Danity Kane, Little Mix, BlackPink, Twice who I thought would have easily had a number one song on the chart given their popularity and massive hit songs. However, the group I was most shocked to discover did not have a number song on the Billboard chart and the subject of this week's TMC's Rewind is The Pussycat Dolls (PCD). It can logically  debated that this group comprising of Nicole Scherzinger and her background dancers Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton and Kimberly Wyatt (no fault of their own) carried the torch for girl groups after Destiny's Child all but retired in 2004 when they dropped their last album as a group titled "Destiny Fulfilled". The group was founded in Los Angeles, California, by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a neo-burlesque troupe. At the suggestion of Jimmy Iovine, Antin decided to take the troupe mainstream as a pop group. Antin negotiated a record deal with Interscope Geffen A&M Records in 2003 turning the group into a music franchise. The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success with the singles "Don't Cha", "Stickwitu", "Buttons", and their multi-platinum debut album PCD in 2005.

However, with a little research it was easy to see why the group never obtained a number one song on the chart because 2005 was the year of MiMi. Mariah Carey had staged a monumental comeback the music industry had not seen since Tina Turner in 1984 with her hit album "The Emancipation of MiMi" with the album selling over 10 million copies worldwide and was 2005's best-selling album in the U.S. with nearly five million units sold. Nevertheless, PCD may have blocked from the top position by Mariah but their undeniable hits, global success and their dominance which kept girl groups in the mainstream during the late 2000s to early 2010s cannot be ignored and is worthy of our recognition. So with that mind I have decided to share my top 12 favourite tracks from their iconic discography throughout their distinguished career. The tunes that were chosen represent singles which are songs that were released to multiple formats to promote their various albums. The songs are listed in chronological order based on the release date of her albums and is not ranked in terms of personal favourability.
